SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The primary election ahead of the South Carolina State House of Representatives District 31 special election was held on Tuesday for voters in Spartanburg County.

Four democrats and two republicans appeared on Tuesday’s ballot. Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The candidates and race results were as follows:

  • Mo Abusaft (D) - 505
  • Angela L Geter (D) - 59
  • Rosalyn Henderson Myers (D) - 607
  • Jerome Rice Jr (D) - 377
  • Michael A Fowler (R) - 35
  • Richard Gosnell (R) - 12

The Spartanburg County Election Commission said Mike Fowler was the winner for the Republican ticket with 74 percent of the GOP votes cast.

No Democratic candidate received a majority vote so a runoff election will be held on August 8.

The special election will be held on September 26.

The District 31 seat was previously held by Harold Mitchell, who resigned earlier this year.
