Firefighters: Man, dog found dead after townhome fire in Spartanburg Co.

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters said crews responding to a fire at a duplex on Idlewood Circle in Spartanburg County found a person and a dog dead inside.

The fire was reported just after 10 a.m.

The Converse Fire Department responded to fight the fire. Cowpens and Drayton fire departments also assisted.

Spartanburg County deputies were also called to the scene to investigate.

The fire started in the back of one unit, firefighters said. Investigators are looking into the area where the air-conditioning unit connects to the home as one possible point of origin.

Firefighters said they found the victim;s body upstairs on the second floor.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the victim as 43-year-old Christopher Jay Gibson, who resided at the duplex.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, but Clevenger said he had no indication the death is suspicious at this time.

The fire is still under investigation.
