Deputies: Suspect led them on chase because she has 4 kids, didn't want to be arrested

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said a woman who led them on a chase Tuesday morning said she didn’t stop initially because she has four children and knew she would be arrested.

The chase started on Business 85 at Pine Street and continued into the city of Spartanburg at speeds between 50 and 90 miles per hour, deputies said.

Deputies said Shavonne Lantion led them on the chase in a 2012 Chevy Malibu and eventually stopped on Wilmont Street.

Deputies approached the car with guns drawn and said Lantion eventually opened her car door and allowed deputies to handcuff her.

Deputies said Lantion told them after her arrest that she led them on the chase because she knew she was a habitual traffic offender and didn’t want to go to jail because she has four children.

Lantion was arrested and charged with blue light violation, speeding more than 25 miles per hour over the limit, driving under suspension second offense, and habitual traffic offender.
