COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A mother and son were sentenced to federal prison time after investigators said they uncovered a human trafficking operation in South Carolina, North Carolina and New York.

Thirty-five-year-old Samuel Pratt of Gastonia, also known as "Promise," was sentenced to life in federal prison after he was found guilty of multiple counts of sex trafficking, production of child pornography, possessing child pornography, felon in possession of a firearm and obstruction of justice.

Investigators said victims of Pratt's business were as young as 14 years old.

Pratt's mother, 53-year-old Daphne Pratt, testified against him in federal court, describing her son's control and manipulation of children. She also said she was directed to run the business after her son was arrested on federal charges.

The United States Attorney's Office said telephone records supported Daphne Pratt's testimony and "provided the jury a view of the depraved world of sex traffickers."

For her testimony, Daphne Pratt was given a reduced sentence of 120 months in federal prison for conspiracy to sex traffic minors.

The FBI in North and South Carolina assisted in the investigation.
