GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenwood police said officers sustained minor abrasions Thursday night while trying to detain a man who reached for one officer’s taser.

The incident happened at New Haven Apartments.  The officers said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle.

When the officers were able to get the driver out of the vehicle, police said a struggle ensued and the man tried to grab an officer’s taser. He was eventually arrested and taken to the hospital, where police said he was treated and released for minor abrasions.

Police said a search of the car turned up several drugs and a gun.

Nathaniel Tyler Wideman, 22, of Greenwood was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, simple possession of marijuana, unlawful carry of a pistol, resisting arrest, and unlawful possession of prescription medication.
