Deputies sign warrants for domestic violence, kidnapping after incident at Caroline Inn & Suites

Posted: Updated:

Deputies responded to a call on the 800 block of Hospitality Drive or the Caroline Inn & Suites on Sunday in reference to a domestic disturbance.

When they arrived on scene, they say they located a tearful victim sitting at the motel’s front office. The victim stated that she had rented a room to get away from her ex-boyfriend but that he had figured out where she was and showed up to her room.

When the ex-boyfriend showed up to the room, the victim stated she let her ex into the room and he went to sleep.

While the man was asleep, the victim said he received a text from another woman that indicated they had been seeing each other. The victim became upset and threw the man’s phone.

The man woke up and began yelling at the victim and when she tried to leave he removed the door handle and stood in front of the door and balled his fists up in a manner that made her think he was going to hit her, she said. Eventually he put the door handle back and she said she escaped to the front office where she asked the front desk employee to call police. She said her ex followed her and tried to take the bag she was carrying and began to make threats that he would get her in the future.

The pair continued to yell at each other and the employee working the front desk stood between the two to stop them, deputies say. The man then was escorted off the property while witnesses say he continued to threaten the victim.

Further investigation revealed that the victim did have a protection order against her ex and that the order was valid until February 2018.

Based on interviews and the investigation, deputies signed warrants against James Swindler. His warrants are for first degree domestic violence and kidnapping. Swindler also had one prior conviction for domestic violence within the previous 10 years, deputies say.
