SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) said a man was arrested in Spartanburg on Wednesday in connection with an effort to obtain an insurance payment with a forged document.

SLED agents said 28-year-old Alan Demetrius Goldsmith was charged with forgery and presenting false claim for insurance payment.

Warrants state that Goldsmith submitted the false and forged claims at Greenville Causality Insurance Company.

The case was investigated by SLED at the request of the South Carolina Office of the Attorney General.

According to Greenville County Detention Center records, Goldsmith was also charged with domestic violence 3rd degree and malicious injury to property/animals $2,000 or less on August 1.

Police said on Thursday that those additional charges came after he was arrested on warrants from an incident on July 26, 2015. On that day, police said Goldsmith assaulted his child's mother and broke her phone at Berkley Point Apartments.
