GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The City of Greenville said on Friday that the water in the Reedy River behind the Peace Center amphitheater had returned to normal but the pedestrian bridge is closed while crews continue to work on the dam.

On Thursday, city officials said engineers were working to resolve a problem which caused a pool of water behind the Peace Center to be drained.

A sluice gate at the dam behind the Peace Center became stuck in the open position during routine maintenance and caused water to flow downstream.

Crews installed a temporary plug on Friday, allowing the water to flow freely as normal. The city said crews were also a vacuum truck to remove debris that has accumulated in the area near the gate. The pedestrian bridge behind the Peace Center was closed at either end to facilitate the work.

The closure is expected to last the remainder of the day.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control said they will monitor quality downstream to make sure there is no disruption to the river bank or bottom.
