ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 62-year-old registered sex offender was sentenced to prison time after pleading guilty to kidnapping a woman in 2015.

On Feb. 15, 2015, investigators said a 35-year-old woman was walking to the Sunoco gas station on West Whitner Street when she was approached by Clyde Edward Clemons.

Clemons asked the victim for a cigarette and, when she reached for them, he kidnapped her at gunpoint. Officials said the victim was forced into a parking garage office and assaulted.

Clemons was accused of holding the victim for several hours but fell asleep. When she tried to escape, investigators said Clemons woke up and the pair were engaged in a struggle, during which he was injured and she was able to escape.

She later identified Clemons to deputies in a photo lineup.

He was sentenced on Thursday to 15 years for kidnapping. He will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for release.
