PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed one person died in a Pickens County wreck early Sunday morning.

The collision occurred at 4:46 a.m. along Alex Lane near Odell Street, which is located 2.5 miles north of Liberty.

According to troopers a juvenile, approximately 16 years old, was driving north on Alex Lane with two passengers in the car. Troopers say the car ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and a mailbox. Investigators say the car overturned, causing one of the passengers, who was not wearing a seat belt, to be thrown from the car. Troopers say that passenger died.

The Pickens County Coroner identified the deceased passenger as 20-year-old Abraham Abdallah Balawi of Central.

EMS transported the driver and the other passenger, who were both wearing seat belts at the time, to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

MAIT is investigating the collision.
