BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Blacksburg Fire Department held a vigil Monday night for a fireman killed in a motorcycle crash in Cherokee County.

According to Coroner Dennis Fowler, 19-year-old James Derrick Henson of South Shelby Street was traveling on a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle heading east on Oak Grove Road, 2 miles west  Blacksburg around 3 p.m. Sunday when his motorcycle was hit head on by a 2010 Honda.

The Honda was heading west and crossed over the center line. Henson was ejected from the motorcycle after being struck.

Troopers said the Honda then drove off the right side of the road, and crashed into a fence. The driver, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital. A juvenile was also in the vehicle.

Henson, who was wearing a helmet was injured and pronounced dead on scene, said Fowler. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning.

Henson worked as a firefighter, according to the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department.

The Blacksburg Fire Department later posted on Facebook that a vigil for Henson would be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the fire station on East Cherokee Street. The service was open to the public. Friends, fireman and loved ones gathered to light candles and share memories of Henson.

"I could have relied on him for anything," said fire captain Jerry Pera.

Pera described Henson as a "passionate go-getter" who always went above and beyond the call of duty.

Henson's family members say a visitation will be held at Nazareth Baptist Church on Thursday, from 6- 8 p.m. Derrick Henson's funeral will be Friday, at the same church at 3 p.m.

Nazareth Baptist Church is located at 1156 Ninety-Nine Island Road, Blacksburg, SC.

This crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.

Troopers said charges are pending.
