RUTHERFORDTON, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies in Rutherford County are warning people of a new phone scam in which the scam artists pretend to be calling from the Rutherford County Veteran Service Office.

Deputies said the callers are soliciting money for a fake program to support jobless veterans. The callers tell victims that the program has different giving levels, Gold, Silver, Bronze or that any amount can be given.

Deputies said the offer is similar to the actual the Rutherford County Veteran Services Community Partnership Program, but it is not the same program. RC Veterans Services will not solicit money from individuals over the phone.

Deputies said the Community Partnership Program gets community businesses involved to show support to Rutherford County’s veterans.

Any questions may be directed to Susan Hall, Director of Veteran Services Rutherford County, at 828-287-6064.
