SLED: Woman charged with abuse after incident involving disabled man

CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged a 21-year-old Laurens County woman with abuse of a vulnerable adult for an incident that took place in March.

SLED said they began investigating at the request of the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.

Maya Threatt of Clinton was arrested on August 4.

Arrest warrants state Threatt abused a man by hitting him and throwing pebbles at him. The victim suffered bleeding and swelling to his face and tongue, and had other visible injuries on his upper abdomen.

The victim is a resident of the Whitten Center, per the warrant. The Whitten Center is a care home for “individuals with more complex, severe disabilities,” according to the SCDDSN website.
