GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police took to Facebook to offer a friendly warning for anyone in the city who might happen to encounter Bigfoot: Don't shoot!

The legendary beast made headlines again after a Western North Carolina Bigfoot hunting team reported an encounter in McDowell County on Aug. 4.

The encounter was mentioned in vivid detail on a Facebook group.

Greenville police posted their in-jest warning Tuesday morning with a link to another video of a purported sighting from the Boone area. Police said the mythical creature may just turn out to be a well-intentioned prankster.

After watching this video from nearby Boone, North Carolina, Facebook followers and friends, I think we can say with some confidence that proof of Bigfoot still eludes us. If you see Bigfoot, please do not shoot at him/her, as you'll most likely be wounding a fun-loving and well-intentioned person, sweating in a gorilla costume. #gvlpd #bigfootsightings
