FAIRPLAY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was arrested Tuesday morning after deputies found more than five pounds of meth in a car she was riding in.

Jimmy Watt, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said the arrest came after traffic stop in the Fair Play area.

A deputy on patrol initiated a traffic stop on a Volvo seen driving on Durham Road with a defective brake light.

When the car pulled over, Watt said deputies learned the driver was driving without a license and could not provide any information about the vehicle.

The driver gave deputies consent to search the car and Watt said they found a bag containing a large amount of drugs and another bag containing a large sum of cash under the seat that Tabitha Ann Hammond, 36, of Seneca was sitting in.

Deputies said Hammond claimed ownership of the drugs. She was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and two counts of possession of a controlled substance

Deputies said the driver of the car was issued citations for defective equipment and drug paraphernalia located under the driver’s seat and was released.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Watt said the meth seized during the incident weighed around 5.3 pounds, and has street value of around $242,000.

Watt said the investigation is ongoing.
