Two small earthquakes detected in Western North Carolina

BREVARD, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The US Geological Survey said two small earthquakes were detected in Western North Carolina overnight.

The first 2.2 magnitude quake had an epicenter about 1 mile south of Toxaway Falls, NC and 27 miles northwest of Easley.

The quake occurred around 8:45 p.m. Monday.

Another 1.5 magnitude quake occurred around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday about 5 miles from Hickory.

Small earthquakes are not uncommon in the Carolinas.
