The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said an Upstate man is facing charges after the kidnapping of a woman and two young children.

Deputies said they responded to a domestic incident after an argument between a couple on Nix Road turned violent. According to deputies, 40-year-old John Christopher West placed his hands on the woman's neck and pulled out a knife while threatening her.

Arrest warrants indicate West confined the woman and two girls, ages 9 and 11, to a room of the house and wouldn't let them leave. Deputies said the victim was eventually allowed to leave to take the children to school at which time she contacted authorities.

West has two or more prior domestic violence convictions, according to arrest warrants.

He was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence and three counts of kidnapping. He was denied bond.
