GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville Zoo announced its first birth of 2018- a black and white Angolan colobus monkey.

Jeff Bullock, director of Greenville Zoo, said the baby was discovered by staff on Jan. 10.

Bullock said the baby has been on display, but the zoo wanted to make sure the baby was perfectly healthy before making an official announcement.

The zoo said the baby has been on exhibit with its mother, Nuru, father, Valentino, and big sister, Zuri. According to the zoo, Nuru and Valentino have been together since June 2015.

Colobus monkey babies are born completely white and then begin to darken as they get older, the zoo said.

The zoo said baby's sex has not yet been determined, but staff will be able to tell soon.
