CLEVELAND, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a male victim after an accident at a Greenville County waterfall.

Deputies, EMS and a coroner were called to the death at Wildcat Falls. Chief deputy coroner Mike Ellis said four individuals from Florida had traveled to the Carolinas to see the mountains.

The group arrived at Wildcat Falls around 11 a.m. Friday after spending the night in Charlotte.

Ellis said the victim was climbing rocks at the falls when he grabbed onto a crevice of a boulder. The boulder, which Ellis estimated to weigh approximately 1,000 pounds, separated and fell back onto the victim, who was killed instantly.

The coroner said the victim's family in Florida has been notified.

The coroner identified the victim as 18-year-old Jacob Bridges Acker of Neptune Beach, Florida.

According to the coroner's office, Acker's cause of death was blunt force trauma of the head.

Wildcat Falls, visible along Cherokee Foothills Scene Highway, has cascades ranging from 10 to 100-foot falls. Chief Marion Cruell with both the River Falls and Slater-Marietta Fire Departments said he believes this is the sixth or seventh death in the area.

Danger signs were posted near the area where the victim was killed.

Both Cruell and Ellis described the incident as a "freak accident."

The incident is under investigation by the coroner's office and the sheriff's office.
