Asheville PD: Teen killed after shooting in Dollar General parking lot; suspect charged with murder

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville Police say one person was fatally shot in the parking lot of a shopping center on Friday.

Police said the incident occurred at the Dollar General parking lot on Patton Avenue around 4:20 p.m.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital and succumbed to injuries. He was later identified as 18-year-old Clarence Michael Williams.

Witnesses reported seeing a yellow SUV flee the scene following the shooting. The suspect vehicle was located and pulled over on Fairview Road near Biltmore Village.

Officers then took 24-year-old Derrick Jamal Edwards into custody. He was charged with first degree murder and is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center without bond.
