GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Zoo officials confirm, an orangutan who escaped from his exhibit at the Greenville Zoo during the summer, escaped again on Monday.

Per Jeff Bullock with the Greenville Zoo, contractors were replacing a panel in the exhibit Monday morning when the orangutan found a weak spot adjacent to the new panel and was able to make his escape.

Officials say the orangutan, who they call Kumar, was out for about 10 to 15 minutes before he went back into the exhibit himself.

Kumar is known for his curiosity, officials say. He escaped from his exhibit back in July, and officials then said that wasn’t the first time Kumar felt like exploring. Back in July, officials said Kumar had made it out of his netted enclosure only a short time before that incident.

Monday’s escape makes at least three recent times that Kumar has escaped the exhibit, per officials.

Officials say no one was in any danger when Kumar escaped. The staff was able to secure the area once they knew he had made it out of the exhibit.
