LANDRUM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It was a very active scene Saturday morning at the home of Fred and Frances Delancey Richards off Landrum Mill Road. Inside, Spartanburg County deputies say they found the bodies of the couple, along with 23-year-old Nathan Poffenberger - all three victims of a violent crime.

"He didn't deserve this. He didn't deserve this,” Poffenberger’s mother, Coreen said.

Poffenberger’s father, Jeff found the three in one room after his son did not return home from spending time with Frances and Fred Richards Friday night. Coreen says the family's biggest question is "why?".

"He didn't have a mean spirit,” described Coreen, “If somebody needed something, then no questions asked. He would help anybody with anything that he could."

Poffenberger had befriended the Richards several years ago, and routinely spent time with them on Saturday nights. His sister, Holly, says the tragedy has torn apart their family. She says a man that cared more about others, was taken too soon.

"Fishing, mowing grass, NASCAR and just being with family is all that mattered to him,” explained Holly, “They ripped a family member from me."

According to Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Investigators, they still don’t have suspects or a motive, but are investigating the three deaths as homicides. Sheriff Chuck Wright said they were chasing some leads as of Monday. The family is hoping someone speaks up so they can get closure.

"We want closure,” said Coreen, “We want justice for all three of them. But Nathan being my son, I want just for my son."

Anyone with any information is being urged to contact the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses here.
