LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Authorities were called to the scene of a fire along Interstate 385 in the Upstate on Tuesday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a fire was reported in Laurens County near mile marker 10 on the northbound side of the interstate. The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m.

Eyewitnesses shared photos of a grass fire burning on the edge of the roadway.

Officials say there were about 6 to 7 light brush and grass fires that began around the 9 MM and ended around the 16 MM. They say most of the fires were small but one or two of them were large.

Per the fire coordinator, the fires were most likely caused from sparks dragging from a trailer or bumper against the pavement. He said those types of fires happen several times a year along the interstate and are usually caused by a vehicle driving metal.

All fires were extinguished and officials say there are no worries of them starting back up.

No injuries were reported.

The Gray Court, Laurens County, and Sandy Springs Fire Departments were among those who responded.
