MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

McDowell County deputies have asked for the public’s help locating a sex offender who they said has violated registry rules.
57-year-old Robert Evans Cunningham Jr. was charged with felony sex offender registry violation after he did not notify officials of a new address.

Deputies said Cunningham’s most recent address was on Clear Creek Road in Marion. Deputies said he left that residence on October 31 of last year and has not yet registered a new address, which the law requires sex offenders to do within three business days of moving.

Cunningham was convicted of two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in McDowell County on June 30, 1994. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, was released on May 3, 1999 and registered as a sex offender on May 10, 1999, deputies said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office at 828-652-2235, the McDowell County 911 communications center at 828-652-4000 or McDowell County Crime Stoppers at 828-65-CRIME (652-7463).
