ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Buncombe County Schools says the sheriff's office is investigating rumors of an inappropriate social media post targeting T.C. Roberson High School students.

Stacia Harris, Director of Communications for Buncombe County Schools, said the rumors about the post were brought to the attention of school administrators on Tuesday night.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority; therefore, out of an abundance of caution, the high school took extra steps to ensure we could have a safe and orderly school day," Harris said.

She said school administrators are working with their resource officer and the sheriff's office to investigate the rumors.

Harris said there is not any danger posed to students and staff.

"We want to commend our students and parents who reached out to administrators with their concerns. We encourage our students to use social media wisely, and if they encounter something that makes them uncomfortable, to report it and not repost it," Harris said. "It is this type of action from our school family that keeps us all safe."
