CHEROKEE COUNTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

For Carla Tanner, it still doesn't seem real as she searches for the words to explain how she feels.

"It was, it was, I just...," Tanner said.

She talked to her nephew, Matthew Littlejohn, about two weeks ago.

"He was working and doing good," Tanner explained. "Matthew was very outgoing, he was very intelligent, a very smart young man. He just loved his family."

It would be the last time she would hear his voice.

"He has had some ups and downs in his life, but he was on the right track," she said.

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office say something happened at a Circle K gas station off Hwy 18 in Gaffney.

"I was sad and angry at the same time because it really didn't make any sense - just leaving the store and get murdered," Tanner said.

A passenger in Littlejohn's car says a man followed them from the gas station and started shooting at them as they hit Hwy 18.

"I pray to God all this violence will stop because it's not solving anything, and in the end, his son and daughter are left without a father," Tanner said.

The passenger says as they drove down the highway the man continued to shoot. The passenger says Littlejohn got shot and pulled onto Commerce Drive near a textile plant at Meadow Creek Industrial Park in Gaffney and died.

"He's going to be missed dearly," Tanner said.

Investigators pulled video from a store's camera and they say a man on camera is a person of interest. They're also looking for a champagne, beige, or silver Chevy Blazer, or GMC Jimmy.

"If anybody at the store or anybody know anything or heard anything, please come forward," Tanner said.

As investigators look for a killer, Tanner and her family continue their search for answers.
