WASHINGTON (AP/FOX Carolina) -

A case challenging a New Jersey betting law that has gone to the Supreme Court has the potential for other states to change their laws regarding sports betting, and the NBA is all for it as long as they get a piece of the action, according to Sports Illustrated.

The SI.com report said many states are looking at plans in case the Supreme Court overturns the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, which established a federal ban on sports gambling.

Forbes reports that the NBA has been the strongest proponent for the overturn among the major sports leagues. The league reportedly hopes to collect a one percent “integrity fee” from bets placed on NBA games, ideally paid by betting operators.

More than a dozen states are supporting New Jersey in opposing the federal ban.

A decision from the Supreme Court is expected by the end of June.
