GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Nearly 2 weeks after specialist Javion Sullivan was killed in Iraq during a non-combat related incident, his family and friends say their final goodbyes.

Brigadier General Robert L Edmonson II is part of the team helping the Sullivan family during this difficult time.

"The family has incredible strength,” explained Edmonson, “The family is working together. That's what makes us so strong as a nation."

While waiting to go in the Mt. Moriah Baptist church in Spartanburg, Edmonson says he gotten to know more about Javion or as many called him, “Jay.” He says without a doubt specialist Sullivan was and always will be a hero.

"His job and his contributions to the Army cannot be understated,” said Edmonson.

Originally from the Upstate, later stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, Sullivan’s final resting place is in Greer. His casket was led by a group of riders known as the Patriot Guard to his burial site. One patriot guardsman wouldn’t even give her name because she said Javion's is the only one that matters on Friday.

"You can never repay the debt that his young man is owed and that his family is owed even if we try every day for the rest of our lives,” she said.

Sullivan leaves behind his wife Rayven and 3-year-old daughter, Mahogany. Some of his family members say they have found some peace knowing the 24-year-old died doing something he loved; serving his country.

"There's a very small Percentage of citizens that volunteer to become soldiers,” said Edmonson, “It's 1% and Javion is a part of that one percent."
