In an interview on Monday, Rep. Jim Clyburn had frank words for his opinion on the current political climate in the United States.

Clyburn told Don Lemon on CNN that what the country is experiencing now can only be compared to Germany in 1934, "right after... Adolf Hitler was elected chancellor."

He was speaking on his thoughts on the current "State of the Union" ahead of Pres. Trump's Tuesday night address.

The representative said Americans could "very well see ourselves going the way of Germany," citing Hitler's tactics of discrediting the media, disrupting the judicial system, and hanging swastikas in churches.

Lemon told Clyburn his comments might make people say he was comparing the President to Hitler.

"There's only one difference," Clyburn said in response. "If I were making that comparison, then this president would be Mussolini and Putin would be Hitler."
