ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect in a string or crimes dating back to December has been arrested and charged in the cases.

Deputies said Marcus Demarius Smith, 19, of Anderson is charged with armed robbery, robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and shoplifting.

On December 11, 2017, deputies said Smith stole a cash register from the Taco Bell on South Main Street. He’s accused of entering the restaurant with a gun around 6 p.m. and then taking off with the cash register.

Two additional incidents took place on January 28 at the Dollar General on South Main Street. The first happened just before 7 p.m. Deputies said Smith stole merchandise from the store when his debit card was declined. An hour later, Smith is accused of returning to the store and stealing additional items while the clerk was collecting shopping carts from the parking lot. When the clerk went back inside to call law enforcement, deputies said Smith knocked her aside and ran off.

Smith is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center.
