WOODRUFF, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Woodruff police have charged a man accused of beating a woman as she gave him a ride home from work, then taking off with her and leaving her stranded on the side of the road in the rain.

The incident happened Sunday night.

Police said they were called to the Burger King on South Main Street to meet with the victim.

According to incident reports, the victim, 58, told police the assault happened after she picked up Landon Powers, 20, from the McDonald’s where he worked.

The victim said she and Powers got into an argument and, several minutes later, he began to punch her in the face and then put his hands around her throat in an attempt to strangle her. She said she stopped the car and was able to get free of Powers’ grasp. Once she exited the vehicle, she said Powers then shifted to the driver’s seat and took off, leaving her on the roadside in the rain. The victim walked to Burger King and called police.

Police noted that the victim had visible injuries.

Powers was arrested on Tuesday and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault and battery.
