ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson County coroner said a teen was one of two flu-related deaths that county has seen during the flu season and one of the 29 to occur in the Upstate.

Coroner Greg Shore said Sydney Danielle Hanks died Tuesday morning at An-Med hospital.

Shore said the 19-year-old had been previously diagnosed with the flu and was being treated at home, but EMS was called and she was rushed to the hospital after she began having breathing problems Tuesday.

Post-mortem exams confirmed she had Type-A Flu. Shore said Hanks also had a medical condition that put her at high risk if she contracted the flu.

The Waldrop Restaurant posted about Hanks’ passing on their Facebook page:

Waldrop's said the Hanks family are regulars and that a graduation party for the teen was held at the restaurant when she graduated from Westside High School.

Shore said a 73-year-old man also died from flu complications on January 23. The man's wife reported he had been suffering from flu-like symptoms and Shore said a post-mortem exam confirmed that he had Type-A flu.

On Wednesday, DHEC said the number of flu-related deaths in South Carolina had risen to 84. 29 of those deaths were from Upstate counties.

The Pickens County Coroner's Office said there have been two flu related deaths in the county. One death was the result of Type-A flu and the other was a result of Type-B flu, the coroner said.
