GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins announced a man was sentenced on a heroin possession charge.

According to the solicitor, Willis Rodrigus Weir, 34, was convicted by a jury of possession with intent to distribute heroin second offense.

The solicitor's office said Weir brought 13.57 grams of heroin from Atlanta to a Days Inn in Greenville County with the intention of selling it. The incident occurred on on December 1, 2015, the solicitor said.

A deputy was on routine patrol at the Days Inn and saw Weir's customers enter his hotel room, Wilkins said. According to the solicitor's office, the deputy entered the hotel room before the sale could occur and Weir fled the room.

The solicitor's office said Weir was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
