BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Sheriff Steve Mueller said a man faces multiple charges after firing shots at deputies on Wednesday evening.

Mueller said deputies were called to a report of a man with a gun at Christian Fellowship Church on Peeler Road in Blacksburg. Three deputies responded and got word that a man with a gun may be on the roof of the church.

As the deputies were searching the perimeter of the church, Mueller said more than 10 gunshots rang out. The deputies took cover and heard bullets hitting the ground and trees around them

Deputies determined a mobile home approximately 100-yards away to be the source of the gunfire.

When backup arrived, Mueller said deputies found Jesse Shane Owens removing a bulletproof vest. Deputies found numerous weapons on his person and inside the mobile home.

Muller said Owens told deputies he saw deputies’ flashlights near the church and thought someone had come to rob him. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Mueller said deputies did not return fire.

Deputies seized a Ruger .22 rifle, Mossberg 12-guage shotgun, 1911 .45 pistol, bulletproof vest, an ammunition belt, and numerous ammunition magazines.

Owens was charged with three counts of attempted murder, wearing body armor during the commission of a crime, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person subject to a domestic violence order.

His bond was set at $100,000 on Friday morning.
