SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says two women have been arrested after children and a vulnerable adult were found living in "deplorable conditions."

Deputies said they responded to a residence to assist DSS who had received a complaint that the residence was in deplorable living conditions.

According to the incident report, deputies found food, dirty clothes, and trash covering the floor. Deputies said dirty dishes were piled up in the kitchen and old food was sitting out. Bugs were flying in the kitchen due to rotting food, deputies said.

Power cables were running throughout the floor of the residence and there was not a working A/C and heating unit, the incident report stated.

According to deputies, two children and a vulnerable adult were removed from the home and placed in emergency protective custody.

Deputies said Althea and Monesha Ferguson were arrested for negligence. Althea Ferguson was charged with negligence of a vulnerable adult and Monesha Ferguson was charged with two counts of negligence of child.

Both Althea and Monesha Ferguson were released from the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
