WARE SHOALS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police say an Upstate man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting in Greenwood County on Tuesday.

Officers with Ware Shoals Police Department said in an incident report that they responded to a residence on Green Acres Blvd in Ware Shoals in reference to a shots fired call.

Upon arrival, police located two subjects sitting under a carport at the residence, and placed them both in handcuffs. Officers said while handcuffing the subjects, they discovered what was later identified as a CO2 pellet pistol in one of their front right jacket pockets, and then removed and secured the weapon.

Police said the subject with the weapon, identified as 55-year-old Joseph Clayburn Davis, told them the other subject pulled a knife on him, and told officers that he'd complained and complained about drug activity at the residence.

Davis then told police he took his BB gun and told the subject, "I will shoot you." He went on to say he had been standing in his yard when a dark-colored SUV pulled into a driveway and the other subject exited the vehicle. A verbal altercation ensued, and that's when Davis said he presented a knife. Then, Davis told police he went back inside his residence to retrieve his gun, walked in the subject's yard and said, "I'll shoot you."

Davis told police the weapon remained in his pocket while he made the threat, and denied presenting the weapon.

Police said they later learned that Davis had fired the gun at three subjects, striking one in the face, causing a minor laceration. All three of those subjects provided similar stories, said officers, and EMS was then requested to evaluate the laceration.

Police said Davis was arrested and charged with third degree assault and battery in connection with the incident, and then transported to Greenwood County Detention Center.
