10 students, van driver taken to hospital after school bus crash in Spartanburg County

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials with Spartanburg District 7 Schools said seven students were taken to the hospital a crash involving a school bus in Spartanburg County.

According to the SCHP website, the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on Chesnee Highway near Oaktree Road.

Sally Hammond, a spokesperson for District 7, said a school bus and a van were involved in the crash.

16 students were on board at the time, headed for Whitlock Flexible Learning Center.

Ten of those students were taken to the hospital as a precaution and the other nine were taken to school.

Hammond said first responders were working to free the driver of the van.

The van involved was a Rooter Man plumbing services van. Troopers said the driver was taken to the hospital with injuries but the driver is expected to recover.

The bus driver was not hurt.

Troopers said the van driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
