GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The SCDOT said drivers should expect detours on I-85 North and South beginning Thursday as construction crews install bridge girders for the I-85/385 Gateway Project.

Both I-85 Northbound and Southbound traffic will be detoured at the Exit 51 ramp to the collector/distributor lanes at Woodruff Road.

A pacing operation will take place on the 85 North collector and distributor lanes as well to accommodate a crane in the roadway.

"We are setting girders on the new bridge that will be taking 385 Northbound traffic to 85 Southbound," said SCDOT's Kimberly Bishop.

The detours are expected on Thursday, Saturday and Monday nights, weather permitting. Detours will be between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Officials urge drivers to use extreme caution and look for signage and workers in the area.
