The Greenville Police Department said an employee of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office was involved in a collision involving a car and a bike.

Officers said a non-sworn employee of the sheriff's office was driving the vehicle.

Officers said the accident occurred on E. Park Avenue at Church Street. The road was closed due to the collision Thursday night.

Injuries were reported in the collision. Officers on scene said the cyclist was taken to the hospital but details about the cyclist's condition are not known at this time.

Residents that live near the scene said they see a lot of cyclists and pedestrians in the area.

"It's high enough traffic bike-wise that it warrants bike lanes," said Kate Stanton, who lives nearby, "That's kind of scary. I'm definitely going to be more cautious."

Highway Patrol responded and will be working the reconstruction due to the driver of the vehicle being a non-sworn Greenville County Sheriff's Office employee, said police.
