ETOWAH, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said two men have been charged for attacking a clerk and a bystander during an armed robbery at an Etowah business.

The robbery happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the "Lucky Find Next to New" shop on Brevard Road.

Two masked men reportedly entered the store and one pointed a gun at the clerk. Deputies said a scuffle ensued and the clerk was sprayed in the face with a chemical of some kind and struck in the back of the head. A bystander was also sprayed and pushed to the ground.

During the scuffle, deputies said the cash register was broken and the suspects fled with cash. They also took a backpack with a .45 caliber pistol in it.

The truck the suspects were fleeing in got stuck in a ditch and the two men ran off on foot, deputies said. The truck was later impounded.

The clerk was taken to the hospital.

On Friday, deputies said the two suspects had been arrested.

Brendan Kyle Patty, age 32, of Sweetwater Road in Etowah, was charged with one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Darien Lee Webb, age 47, of Fish Lake Drive in Fletcher was also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
