Deputies: Buncombe Co. homicide suspect taken into custody

SWANNANOA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office said a man has been charged with murder after a deadly shooting.

Deputies said the homicide occurred on RC Cole Lane at 2:45 Sunday morning. 

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head, deputies said. 

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as 20-year-old Cameron Ellis McElrath, also known as Cameron Curry of Swannanoa. 

Deputies said he was taken into custody around 11:13 a.m. after a vehicle pursuit on I-40. 

McElrath was charged with first degree murder.

On Monday, deputies identified the victim as 23-year-old Robert Jacob Stewart of Asheville.
