Greenville dog thrown out of car window gets adopted but is facing medical treatments

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

You may remember the story of a dog being thrown out of a car window in Greenville in January.

Good news! Her name is Faith, and she has since been adopted by her new owner, James Akers Jr.

James first saw Faith on the Greeenville Police Department's virtual ride along, and again on FOX Carolina News.

He tells us the very next day he went up to the Greenville Animal Care to meet Faith, and after 20 or 30 minutes he knew he had to take her home. But before he was able to take her home, James tells us Faith had already come down with an upper respiratory infection, but that's not the worst of it.

James says, "They (Greenville Animal Care) did warn me several times that there was a chance she could get an upper respiratory infection or parvo, and as it turns out, she got both".

"In her 5 months she has been through a lot. She's been thrown from a car and now upper respiratory infection, and now suddenly parvo...She's a fighter, shes had it rough already," James says.

He says it was late Friday night when Faith started showing signs of the intense viral disease.

"She had really gotten pretty lethargic at that point. She would kinda wag her tail and she would kinda move around, but she was clearly not the same puppy she went to sleep as," James explains.

He knew something wasn't right so he rushed her straight to the vet in the morning.

"I knew in my heart that something was up and immediately they came in to look at her and asked if they could run a parvo test on her and I said, 'Yes, I knew you would want to,' and I was actually leaning against the wall and i heard someone in the back say positive," James says.

Luckily, the vet told him he had brought her in within the first 24 hours so her hope for survival is high, but the cost for treatment is high as well.

James tell us, "The first thing she said was, "This is going to be expensive," and I was like, 'Okay. Whatever it takes, you tell me when we've done all we can.'"

He's already put down $1,000 for medical treatments and he knows it will cost much more, but he's not giving up on her.  With a name like Faith, how could you?

James has set up a GoFundMe account for anyone that would like to help give towards Faiths medical treatments.

As of now the goal is to raise $5,000, but the treatments could end up costing even more than that.

James told us that any additional money raised that doesn't go towards her medical bills will be donated back to the Greenville Animal Care to help them care for animals just like Faith in the future.
