GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

BMW Manufacturing announced Tuesday that its Spartanburg County factory continues to be the leading U.S. automotive exporter by value.

BMW said 272,346 BMW X models were exported from the plant in 2017.

All but 13 percent of the vehicles were exported through the Port of Charleston.

“BMW X models manufactured in South Carolina continue to be a major contributor to the BMW Group’s success,” said Knudt Flor, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing in a news release. “Plant Spartanburg’s achievement as the country’s leading automotive exporter demonstrates BMW’s trusted partnership with this state, its contribution to the U.S. balance of trade, and its commitment to the United States.”

BMW announced in 2017 that it will invest an additional $600 million in the Greer plant through 2021 and add an additional 1,000 jobs.

The plant produces 1,400 vehicles each day.
