WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said warrants have been issued for a man's arrest in connection with the killing a homeowner during a trespassing incident Wednesday morning at a home on Quarter Horse Trail near Walhalla.

Deputies said they were called to the scene just after 3:35 a.m. and dispatchers notified them that the homeowner had been shot.

Deputies said the homeowner's wife led them to the back of the house when they arrived, where they found him injured. He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, were he later succumbed to his injuries.

The coroner identified the victim as 63-year-old Robert Steven McDowell. An autopsy confirmed that McDowell died from internal injuries associated with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, the coroner said.

Deputies also found the suspect on scene and that person had also been shot and he was taken to the hospital.

McDowell's death was ruled a homicide and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as 24-year-old Tyler Mark Broome.

According to the sheriff's office, Broome shot McDowell after McDowell discovered him on the property and held him at gunpoint.

Deputies said Broome was previously served with a trespass notice from McDowell.

The sheriff's office said Broome was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime, and entering premises after warning.

The investigation is ongoing.
