SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police have arrested a Spartanburg man accused of attacking his brother-in-law with a baseball bat.

Jail records said James Daryl Gray, 39, was charged with attempted murder and malicious injury to personal property.

Police said they were called to Fernwood Glendale Road Monday evening after reports of a man walking with an open wound on his head.

Police said the man flagged them down and told them Gray had just attacked him. The attack took place while the victim was sitting in his living room.

Police noted the cut on the victim’s head was an inch or more in length.

At the address where the attack occurred, police said they spoke to a witness who had seen Gray enter and exit the home with the bat and then place it in his trunk.

Police said they found a baseball bat in the trunk of a car at the home.

Gray was released Wednesday from the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $8,500 bond, according to jail records.

Gray was arrested at the scene.
