HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson County Sheriff's office said an arrest has been made after a disturbing note was found in the parking lot of Belton Honea Path High School.

The note was found in the school's parking lot on Feb. 15 referencing a possible shooting, but did not name the school, the sheriff's office said.  According to the sheriff's office, a student turned the note in.

Assistant Superintendent Lance Radford released the following statement regarding the incident:

After an anonymous note was found on BHP school grounds in the afternoon of February 15, 2018, school administration immediately contacted law enforcement and worked collectively to address the situation.  As a result of this collaboration, additional law enforcement officers were brought to the school as an added safety precaution.  With students, parents, school officials and law enforcement working together, BHP had a smooth and orderly dismissal.  The note and its contents continue to be the focus of an ongoing police investigation and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement.  Unfortunately, these types of situations are occurring in many areas across the country. In Anderson School District Two, we take each situation very seriously and will always respond with law enforcement to ensure our students are safe. We have additional law enforcement available today as an extra precaution.  We know that these types of situations can be upsetting to students so we have our school counselors prepared and available to serve students.

On Monday, deputies said an investigation resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old Belton Honea Path student who is charged with disturbing schools.

The suspect, who has not been identified due to their age, was transported to the Anderson County Detention Center but later released on bond.
