Thomas Brush still hopes to make Greenville a video game town one day - and his recent Kickstarter shows he has a lot of support.

Brush, the creator of one-man studio Atmos Games, started designing video games as a student at Mauldin High School

In 2016, he launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to raise $28,000 for the creation of "Pinstripe," a game about an ex-minister's quest through the afterlife to save his daughter. He met his goal in less than 24 hours and later raised more than $106,000 for the game.

And now Brush is at it again.

On Thursday he launched a Kickstarter to create "Once Upon A Coma," a reboot of an award-winning game he designed while still in high school.

"I took some time off, and am now ready more than ever to continue my childhood dream of making beautiful, uncanny games in my home-town of Greenville," he said.

Once again, in less than 24 hours he received more than $28,000 from backers on Kickstarter to meet the game's funding goal. The Kickstarter continues until Mar. 17 with stretch goals for added content and release on the Nintendo Switch.

The game will follow the journey of Pete, a little boy who wakes up from a coma to a world without parents. The design looks to stick with Brush's pleasantly creepy aesthetic style which is heavily influenced by artists such as Esao Andrews and Tim Burton.

“It’s all about the cohesion of beautiful piano-centric music, illustration, all wrapped up in a story about rediscovering childhood," Brush said.

Once Upon A Coma is already a nominee for the 2018 SXSW Gamer's Choice award.
