If you're looking for something new to do with the kids this weekend, counting the birds is easy as 1-2-3!

The Great Backyard Bird Count takes place this weekend, February 16 through February 19. The global event started in 1998, providing an opportunity for bird enthusiasts to contribute important bird population data to help scientists see changes over the past 21 years.

To participate, you need at least 15 minutes to keep track of the numbers and species of birds you see. Your bird counting can take place in any backyard, park, nature center, hiking trail, school ground, balcony, or beach.

Register as a new user HERE,  to submit your counted birds. Once you log in to your account, you'll be asked where you counted each species. Enter your state/province, county, etc. under "Find it on the Map" and hit enter. You can begin the count as early as midnight on the first day of the count, February 16.
