FAIRVIEW, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying an armed robbery suspect.

Deputies said they responded to an armed robbery at the Citgo gas station on Charlotte Highway in Fairview on Monday night. The clerk was robbed after she locked the door to the business and was walking to her vehicle, deputies said.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect displayed a silver handgun and demanded the clerk's purse and keys to her vehicle.

Deputies said the suspect is 5'8", medium build, and is in his early to mid 20's. The suspect has brown hair and was wearing a navy blue bandana, a red, white, and black jacket with blue jeans.

The suspect fled the scene in the clerk's 1995 white Toyota Corolla, deputies said.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
