NC Troopers: Chase involving two stolen vehicles ends in crash

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol say multiple suspects are at large after a chase involving two stolen vehicles.

Highway Patrol says the chase began on US 240 when a trooper tried to stop a car for excessive speeding around 10:20 p.m. The car was traveling around 90 miles per hour, troopers say. Troopers say the car failed to stop for blue lights, leading troopers on a chase that continued to Kenilworth Road.

As the chase continued onto Kenilworth Road, troopers say the car began driving behind another vehicle. They say the second vehicle also became involved in the chase.

Troopers say the chase ended when both cars crashed on Erskine Street. One car crashed into a ditch, and the other crashed into a parked vehicle, troopers say.

After both vehicles crashed, the suspects fled the scene on foot and managed to escape, troopers say. According to Highway Patrol, there were three male suspects all wearing dark clothing in one vehicle and an unknown number of suspects in the other vehicle. Troopers say they later determined that both cars were stolen. The stolen cars were a Honda CRV and a Volkswagen, troopers say. The exact make of the Volkswagen is unknown at this time.

Highway Patrol says that the Asheville Police Department is investigating the stolen vehicles. There is no word on charges at this time. Officials are still investigating whether or not the suspects in both vehicles knew each other.
